Why New Yorkers across the five boroughs call Marley when the building wants a COI tomorrow and the move has to go up five flights

Google Reviews Yelp Angi Thumbtack HomeAdvisor BBB Accredited
The process

First message to last box carried in, the whole thing is three steps

  1. 1

Give us the basics of your move

Use the short form or call the Long Island City office, where a member of our crew answers in person. Three details get us going: the two ZIP codes, the date you are aiming for, and how many rooms we are moving. No charge, nothing to sign, and we never hand your number off to a sales floor.

  2. 2

One written number lands in your inbox and stands through the last box

Inside the hour you have a fixed figure on paper — no clock running in the background, no add-on lines appearing after the fact. The number we email is the number you settle on moving day, with nothing creeping upward in between. If a co-op board or managing agent wants a Certificate of Insurance on file, we draw it up and send it over before their cutoff.

  3. 3

Once the truck parks out front, the day stops being yours to carry

The crew arrives in Marley shirts aboard a truck stocked with blankets, dollies, floor runners, and every tool the building throws at us, and not one of them clocked in without passing a background check and a drug screen first. Boxing the place up, walking it down the stairs or onto the freight elevator, the drive across town or across the map, and setting each room back up — all of it sits with us. Your week goes on as planned.

Meet the owner

Marcus Marley — 17 years moving New York families and storing their things

“I got tired of watching New Yorkers hire a cheap outfit that showed up without a COI, got turned away by the building, and blew the whole day”

Grew up in Crown Heights and started out humping furniture up Brooklyn walk-ups in his twenties. Even now Marcus still shows up in person on most jobs, which keeps the rate square and means the movers at your door are crew we trained ourselves.

FAQs

Honest numbers right up front, no booking needed to see them

Are the trucks and crews actually yours?

Yes — Marley Moving Corp is a licensed, fully insured New York City mover out of New York, NY, registered with the NYSDOT. The trucks carry our name, our W-2 movers draw their paycheck from us, and we run under our own live federal operating authority.

Roughly, what does a local New York move cost?

On local jobs a two-mover crew runs $149/hour, and the truck, the pads, and every dolly and strap we bring are already in that rate. Figure 2–4 hours for a 1–2 bedroom apartment and 4–6 hours for a typical three-bedroom brownstone. Want one fixed number instead? Once Marcus walks the rooms or we do it by video, we put the flat rate in writing.

When is the right time to lock my date in?

Across the city, weekends and the first of the month go first, so try to claim a Saturday window 2–3 weeks ahead. Choose a midweek date, or sidestep the end-of-lease crush, and a couple days’ lead time is usually plenty. Whenever a crew has an opening on a slower day, even a same-week or last-minute booking slides right onto the schedule.

Is there a job your crew won’t take?

We handle local work all over New York City and the five boroughs, runs out to Long Island, New Jersey, and Westchester, and long-distance hauls from New York to any state in the country. The odd, heavy pieces are no trouble either — upright and baby grand pianos, marble tops, oversized art. And we do plenty beyond carrying boxes: full packing, short-term between-lease storage, and patient downsizing help.

Do you carry insurance?

Always. Every move we run carries $1M of cargo liability behind it. You can layer full-value protection on top, which usually works out to 1–3% of the value you put on the shipment. Our movers are covered as well — bond, general liability, and workers’ comp all in force. And when a co-op board or managing agent asks for a Certificate of Insurance, we file it before the date they set.

Does someone have to stay on site the entire move?

It helps to have you at the pickup and the drop-off, but if the day gets away from you, a friend or relative you trust can stand in. Either way, the crew writes down every item as it goes on the truck and ticks the same list off as it comes back inside.

Something came up — does shifting or canceling the date cost me?

Cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice and there is no charge at all. Sliding to another day costs nothing either, provided a crew is free when you want it. Saturdays go quickly in this city, so the earlier you reach out, the better our odds of holding the slot you want.

How can I pay you?

Pay however suits you — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, a debit card, a certified check, or cash all work. Nothing is due to reserve the date. You settle the balance at delivery, once you have walked the load and signed off, and not a moment before.

What happens if something picks up a scratch on the way?

Released-value coverage at $0.60/lb comes free on every move. Notice something off? Point it out to the crew lead before the truck leaves and it lands on the inventory that day, with most claims wrapped up well inside the nine-month window we keep open. Moving a piece you could not stand to lose? Full-value protection, around 1–3% of what you declare, gives it a far softer landing.
